Connector Overview

Datassential MCP Server

Datassential's food & beverage market intelligence.

Overview

What this server does

The Datassential MCP Server connects AI assistants to Datassential, the food & beverage industry's market intelligence platform. Once it's connected, you can ask your AI assistant questions in plain language and get answers built on Datassential data, with citations that link back to the source.

It's a read-only connection. The server looks things up in Datassential's data and returns answers. It can't create, change or delete anything.

What's available

Industry research

Datassential reports and analysis: market sizing, competitive landscape, category deep-dives and forecasts.

Consumer preferences

Survey-based data on how consumers feel about foods, flavors and ingredients, broken out by demographic.

Menu trends

What appears on U.S. restaurant menus, how that's changing, and what it costs, across segments and dayparts.

Social conversation

What people are saying about foods, brands and chains on social media, and how fast that buzz is growing or fading.

Your subscription decides which of these you can use. Datassential adds new capabilities over time, and they show up through the same connection without any change on your side.

Who it's for

Datassential customers who work in food and beverage: CPG and supplier teams, restaurant operators, marketing, insights, culinary and sales. You need an active Datassential account with MCP access turned on. Your Datassential account team can enable it.

Authentication

How access works

Method Used by How it works
OAuth 2.1 Interactive MCP clients The standard authorization-code flow with PKCE. Your client registers itself automatically, opens the Datassential sign-in page and refreshes tokens in the background. You never paste in a token.
API key Server-to-server integrations and scripts A long-lived key issued by Datassential, sent with every request. Ask your account team for one if you're building a programmatic integration.

Who can grant access

You

Approve the connection when you sign in. You can disconnect at any time from your client's settings.

Your organization admin

If your AI assistant is managed by your organization, an admin may need to allow the connector before members can use it.

Datassential

Your Datassential account team turns on MCP access for your company and sets which data areas your subscription includes.

Examples

Sample prompts

Ask the way you'd ask a colleague. The assistant works out where to look, and answers include citations and links back to Datassential.

"How are quick-service chains responding to GLP-1 weight-loss drugs?"
A short written analysis based on Datassential reports, with numbered citations linking to each report and page it drew on.
"Which hot sauces are most loved by Gen Z, and how does that compare to Boomers?"
A ranked table of preference scores for each generation, a sentence or two on the biggest differences, and a link to open the same view in Datassential.
"What are the fastest-growing breakfast items on restaurant menus over the last four years?"
A table of items with menu penetration, multi-year growth and average price, plus a link to the matching Datassential view.
"What are people saying about oat milk on social, and is it trending up?"
A summary of recent conversation volume and momentum, the foods oat milk is most often mentioned with, and a few real posts quoted and linked.
"Build me a one-page brief on the pistachio trend: menus, consumers and social."
The assistant combines several data areas into one cited brief covering menu adoption, consumer sentiment and social buzz.
